The Argentinean Network of Social Studies of Science and Technology [Red Argentina de Estudios Sociales de la Ciencia y la Tecnología (ESCYT)] brings together institutes, centers, research groups and researchers from national universities and other institutions in Argentina dedicated to Science, Technology and Society studies. The network’s primary node is the Institute for Science and Technology Studies (IESCT-UNQ).
Red ESCYT is the first of its kind in Argentina. It aims to fill a vacancy area of strategic importance for the development of local scientific and technological activities, the design and optimization of public policies, strengthening the Argentinean national innovation system, and fostering the economic and social development of the country.
The network was created during the First Argentinean Congress of Social Studies of Science and Technology held in July 2007 at the Universidad Nacional de Quilmes. Researchers and representatives of diverse Argentinean and Latin American institutions that attended the congress decided on the need of creating the network and linking it to other existing networks in the subject (in particular, to the Latin American Society for Social Studies of Science and Technology - ESOCITE).
Red ESCYT aims to:
- Facilitate the exchange within different disciplines, approaches and objects of analysis related to the social problematic of science and technology.
- Encourage cooperation in research, teaching and extension activities between members of different academic institutions.
- Think about the social relevance of the predominant research lines in the field.
- Enable and promote meetings for network building between different Argentinean research groups.
