The activities of the Area of Education and Public Communication of Science and Technology focus on research about didactics and public communication of science and technology, holding as its main goal to study, understand and facilitate the relationship between production of scientific and technological knowledge, and the ways of communication and reappropriation.

Among the main research lines are:

  • Developing inputs and programs of public communication of science and technology.
  • The inclusion of the social dimension as a relevant variable in the process of understanding and explaining science.
  • Understanding the role of science and technology in the construction of contemporary society.
  • The approaches of participatory democracy in science and technology.

The task of analyzing and understanding the current forms of transmission, translation and social uses of knowledge is necessarily supplemented by the proposition of university extension projects, the construction of curricula that incorporate the perspective of STS (Science, Technology and Society) and training of trainers in decision making areas and communication of science and technology.

Current projects:
Project EDU2010-16553 / PICT 2011-0576: “Teaching and Learning about the nature of science and technology (EANCYT): An experimental and longitudinal research”. Directed by Dr. Angel Vazquez Alonso, University of the Balearic Islands (Spain) and funded by the Ministry of Education and Science of Spain (2011-2013). Retrieved Subsidy: 95,000 Euros. Directed in Argentina by Dr. Silvia Porro and funded by ANPCyT. Amount: $ 208,000. Duration: 2012 to 2015.
